Welcome to the Clay Flower Lady Website!

“Are those real flowers?” Is a question that has been asked by people many times! But it’s only one of the comments I have received at the many flower shows I’ve displayed at in and around the Traverse City area, as well as exhibiting my work at regional art and craft shows.

I learned the art of creating these special Thai clay flowers in Thailand while visiting my mom there a few years ago. I sculpt, paint and arrange the flowers, which are created from a very special clay. My specialties are Orchids, Ghomphrena, Carnation, Calla Lily, Plumeria, Trillium and others!

These flowers are made from special formulated air dry clay. I begin by flattening the clay, then cut and shape each petal with special hand tools, using wire and adhesives. Before the petals are completely dry, I hand paint the petals and leaves to achieve the correct color of the actual flower. I then assemble and arrange them together to complete the whole flower. The life size flowers must be allowed to dry over night. The following day they are then arranged into a vase or pot or on wood, creating a very life-like presentation.

If you would like to learn this fun and rewarding craft go to the Classes page to see which class is coming up that will fit your schedule!
